SHAME: Should Have Already Mastered Everything
SHAME: Should Have Already Mastered Everything
I recently heard Anne Lamott share an acronym for shame: Should Have Already Mastered Everything. And wow, does that hit home.
Shame comes at us from all directions.
It’s poured into us through expectations, judgments, and quiet messages that tell us we’re not enough. We take it on when we believe we should have it all figured out—when we measure ourselves against impossible standards and come up short.
Shame whispers, You should be better, stronger, wiser by now. It convinces us that struggle is failure, that failure is bad or wrong, and that everyone else has mastered what we’re still learning.
But here’s the truth: No one has mastered everything. Life isn’t about perfection—it’s about learning, growing, and showing up, even in the messiness.
What if, instead of shame, we offered ourselves grace? What if we released the weight we were never meant to carry?
You are not behind. You are not failing. You are evolving.
YOU are ENOUGH. Just as you are, right this minute.
Revel in the moment.
Revel in the sunshine.
Revel in the beauty and magnificence that is you.
Wonderful, miraculous YOU.
