Access Your Inner Wisdom: 4 Practical Steps to Connect with Your True Self

“Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.”   -Lao Tzu

You know how people often say “The answer is inside of you!” or “You have deep inner wisdom!” Ok, by “people” I am including myself here, too. I DO say this often. And I truly 100% believe this.

Each one of us is a bottomless well of wisdom!

So…how do we get to know ourselves, as the quote encourages? How we can access that inner guidance and hear that still small voice inside?

Here are 4 practical suggestions:

  1. Meditation:

Simply take a moment of intention to allow your mind to settle and focus on your breath. Any amount of time is great! Sitting still, laying in bed, going on a walk…all of these are meditation worthy options. Let thoughts come and go without judgement and get curious with compassion (not inner critic :). Over time, meditation helps you connect more deeply with your inner self. And check out some apps! One of my favorites is the Insight Timer App.

2. Breath Work:

How often do you realize you’ve holding your breath or forgetting to breathe deeply? I know I do! Our breath is a powerful tool for accessing inner wisdom. Try deep, intentional breathing exercises, such as inhaling deeply through your nose, holding for a few seconds, and then exhaling slowly through your mouth. This practice calms your nervous system and creates space for inner clarity. Make it a point to breathe deeply and with regular intention and explore what works for you.

3. Journaling

Write freely about what’s on your mind. Don’t worry about structure or grammar—just let your thoughts flow. Draw if that feels good or put paint to canvas. Journaling can help you uncover feelings, desires, and insights that are waiting to be acknowledged. It’s a great way for things to get processed through you!

4. Life Coaching

Sometimes, the best way to hear your inner wisdom is with the support of a skilled listener. A coach can ask powerful questions, offer new perspectives, and create a safe space for you to explore your inner landscape.

And…as you’re on this journey to connect with your inner self, remember that you don’t have to do it alone— We’re in this together! I have all sorts of experience personally, on my own path of inner exploration, utilizing and getting creative with ALL FOUR of these suggestions myself!

And professionally, I am here and 100% committed to support you. To meet you wherever you may on your path. Maybe you prefer 1:1 coaching in a safe, sacred space. Whether you prefer virtual on-line, in-person or outside walk and talk sessions, I’ve got you! And I’m thrilled to be able to offer two upcoming group coaching experiences designed to deepen your connection with your inner wisdom. And always….remember to be curious with compassion. Set that inner critic aside as you explore. I like to think of this inner wisdom work as giant science experiment on our own self! Showers of grace and spaciousness for you, and for me too. :)

Sending you love and joy for the journey!
